The Bankers’ Selection Committee on Tuesday cancelled the recruitment tests for eight state-run banks amid protest from the candidates.
The decision came after an emergency meeting between Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Fazle Kabir and the committee that comprised of chief executives of 14 state-run banks and financial institutions.
BB also formed a five-member body to investigate the mismanagement in holding the recruitment tests.
The central bank’s assistant spokesperson Abul Kalam Azad came up with the disclosures after the meeting held at the BB’s headquarters in the capital.
“The Bankers Selection Committee has decided to cancel the Friday’s recruitment test. A probe body has been formed to investigate into the alleged anomalies in the test,” said Azad.
He said the probe body led by Bangladesh Bank’s Chief Executive Director Ahmed Jamal would submit its report within two weeks. “We will decide the next course of action regarding the exam after getting the probe report.”
On January 12, Hazrat Shah Ali Women College in Mirpur could not provide seats to hundreds of candidates among 5,600 who had applied for the bank recruitment test. Later, the candidates vandalised the doors and windows of the college.
The recruitment test was also held in 60 other designated exam centres in Dhaka
Later, the candidates turned the protests against the exam authorities demanding the cancellation of the test raising several allegations of mismanagement in various exam centers.
