At present, many village people including unemployed youths are becoming interested to produce various high-yielding and high-valued crops, fruits and vegetables but they could not do that successfully due to financial constraints.
The banks which are working in rural areas should boost investment to the potential fields, said Nazrul Islam, Chairman of Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB). He was addressing a branch managers performance evaluation meeting here yesterday as chief guest.
More than 60 bankers including 42 branch managers from Rajshahi and Chapainawabgonj Zones of RAKUB attended the meeting.
With acting Managing Director Rafiqul Alam Chowdhury in the chair, Director Prof Rustam Ali Ahmed, General Manager Khandaker Golam Mostofa, Deputy General Managers Rafiqul Islam, Idrish Ali, divisional audit officer Md Isha and Zonal Audit Officers Hannan Sarker and Lokeman Ali also spoke on the occasion.
Nazrul Islam asked the branch managers to discharge their duty with utmost sincerity and honesty to attain the targets of loan disbursement and recovery and deposit collection.
He also urged them to speed up the farmers-level lending activities for boosting agricultural production to meet the gradually increasing food demand.
“You have to supplement the government efforts for boosting the agricultural production, livelihood development of the farmers along with ensuring the food security,” added Nazrul Islam.
