Bangshadip Mahasthabir Trust Fund set up at DU

A trust fund titled ‘Bangshadip Mahasthabir Trust Fund’ has been set up at the Dhaka University (DU).
In order to set up this fund, Managing Director of Jams Group Swapan Barua Chowdhury handed over a cheque for Taka 5.4 lakh to DU Treasurer Prof. Md. Kamal Uddin at the Vice-Chancellor’s office in the city on Tuesday.
Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Prof. Farid Uddin Ahmed, Acting Registrar Syed Rezaur Rahman, Prof. Dr. Sukomal Barua, Prof. Dr. Biman Chandra Barua, Principal Dharmamitra Mahather and Bangladesh Buddhist Association leaders-Dr. Mrinal Kanti Barua and Ashok Barua were present on the occasion.
Out of the income of this donation, every year one student who will secure the highest CGPA in BSS Honours Examination, from the Department of Pali & Buddist Studies of DU, will be awarded a ‘Bangshadip Mahasthabir Gold Medal.’
Prof. Arefin thanked the donor for setting up the Trust Fund at Dhaka University and hoped that the students of Pali and Buddhist Studies Department of the university would be benefited and encouraged from this donation.
Late Bangshadip Mahasthabir was an internationally reputed Buddhist scholar. He authored many books on Buddhism. His books are taught at schools, colleges and universities of Bangladesh. He died in 1970 in Chittagong.
