The first single country trade fair of Bangladesh began in Bangkok, capital of Thailand aiming to boost bilateral trade and attract Thai investment in the country.
The fair would open for visitor from 10am to 8am till the end on June 1.
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed and his Thai counterpart Apiradi Tantraporn jointly inaugurated the three-day “Bangladesh Trade and Investment Expo-2016” at Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. The fair was jointly organized by Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) and Bangladesh Embassy in Thailand, said a ministry press release on Monday.
A total of 55 Bangladesh export oriented organizations is taking part in the fair to showcase their products.
Speaking on the occasion, Tofail Ahmed said duty and quota-free facilities in Thai market are required for the export of Bangladeshi product as the country is keen to boost bilateral trade and investment with Thailand.
Mentioning that Thailand is offering duty and quota free trade facilities to 6998 products, he said all Bangladeshi products in needed such facilities to heighten its export volume.
Highlighting Bangladesh’s move of developing 100 special economic zones (SEZs), the commerce minister said: “Thai businessmen would be benefited through investing in the SEZs by availing special packages from the Bangladeshi government.”
Expressing Thailand’s keenness of to increase trade with Bangladesh, Apiradi Tantraporn said necessary measures would be taken so Bangladesh could raise its export to Thai market.
Referring to the big demand of Bangladeshi jute bag in Thai market, she said Bangladesh could avail the opportunity.
In the second session, a high-level panel discussion meeting was held where Tofail Ahmed, Thailand Industries Minister Dr Atchaka Sibunruang, state minister for posts and telecommunication Tarana Halim, Thai vice minister for information and communication technology Dr Pansak Siriruchatapong and Bangladeshi and Thai business leaders took part.
Besides, Bangladesh and Thai fashion designers displayed varieties of Bangladeshi readymade garment in the third session. Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed and Thai Tourism and Sports Minister Kobarn Wattangavrangkul also spoke on the session.
In the second day, Bangladesh and Investment Conference would be held where ministers and businessmen of both the counties would take part.
State minister for power, energy and mineral resources Nasrul Hamid, senior commerce secretary Hedayetullah Al Mamoon, Bangladesh Ambassador Saida Muna Tasnim, EPB vice chairman Mafruha Sultana and FBCCI president Matlub Ahammad, among others, also spoke on the occasion.
