Bangladesh Women’s Cricket team get Test status

Bangladesh Women’s Cricket team have won Test status. The International Cricket Council (ICC), the apex body of world cricket took this decision in its meeting, which was held on Thursday last.
It may be mentioned that Bangladesh Men’s Cricket team got Test status in the year of 2000. After that almost 20 years Bangladesh Women’s team have got Test status.
Earlier, Bangladesh Women’s Cricket team only played One Day International (ODI) matches and Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. Bangladesh Women’s Cricket team will now play Test matches, the most prestigious cricket meet of world cricket.
Earlier, a total of ten countries had Test status. They are: India, Australia, England, South Africa, New Zealand, Pakistan, West Indies and Sri Lanka. Besides, Netherlands and Ireland, the associate members of ICC also have played Test matches.
Bangladesh Women’s Cricket team have got ODI status after defeating United States in 2011. The eve cricket team of Bangladesh emerged the champions in the Asia Cup in 2018 in Malaysia. Besides, Bangladesh Women’s Cricket team competed ICC Cricket World Cup (ODI) and also took part in T20 World Cup.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Bangladesh Cricket Board Nizamuddin Chowdhury said, ” It is now official news for Bangladesh Women’s Cricket team that they will play in the Test cricket matches. The ICC took that decision in its meeting yesterday.”
England Women’s team played the most 95 Test matches so far. Australia played 74 Test matches, New Zealand played 45 Test matches, India played 36 Tests, South Africa and West Indies played 12 Tests each. Pakistan played three Tests and Sri Lanka only one.
Meanwhile, State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russel, MP, has congratulated in a message to the players, officials and coaches of Bangladesh Women’s Cricket team as they have got Test status.
