Bangladesh women team suffer 6-wicket defeat to South Africa

Poor batting display allowed South Africa women team to post an overwhelming six-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the Group B match of the ICC Women World Cup Qualifier held on Saturday at P Sara Oval, Colombo.
With this day’s win, South Africa confirmed their super six stage securing six points from three matches and they will play their last group match against Papua New Guiana on Monday (February 3).
On the other hand, Bangladesh, which are in a comfortable position with four points, finished their group phase matches with two wins and two defeats, but still they will have to wait for the last two group phase engagement results to confirm their super six stage.
Chasing a winning target of 101 runs set by Bangladesh, South Africa hardly had to sweat they chase down the target 25.1 overs for the loss of four wickets, rode on a solid 50-run opening stand by Lizelle Lee (34) and Laura Wolvaardt (30).
Salma Khatun, Rumana Ahmed, Suriya Azmin and Jahana Alam took one wick each for Bangladesh.
Earlier, South African bowlers dismissed Bangladesh in a paltry total of 100 in 46.1 overs, after the Tigresses opted to bat first.
Skipper Rumana Ahmed top scored with 39 runs followed by Salma Khatun (16) and Sanjida Islam (13).
Shabnim Ismail and Sun, Luus caused the major damage as they grabbed three Bangladeshi wickets conceding 14 and 17 runs respectively. They were well supported by Dane van Niekerk, who claimed two wickets giving away 22 runs.
