Bangladesh Unified Women Hockey team, in their first appearance in the Special Olympics World Winter Games, emerged joint champions in Floor Hockey after playing a goalless draw with Iran in a marathon final held in Austria city of Graz Thursday night.
Bangladesh Men’s team, which clinched the Men’s Floor Hockey title four years back in South Korea, finished runners-up this time after conceding 1-2 goals defeat against Uganda in the final on the same day.
Both the Bangladesh Men’s and Women’s Floor Hockey teams will return home Sunday morning by a Turkish Airlines flight, National Director of Special Olympic Faruqul Islam told UNB on Friday afternoon.
Earlier, Bangladesh Men’s team assured the final berth beating Korea by 2-1 goals and outplayed Uganda by 2-0 goals in the first round.
Bangladesh Women’s Floor Hockey team played to a 1-1 draw against Tunisia and lost to Iran by 0-2 goals in the preliminary round.
