Sports Reporter :Bangladesh National Women’s Cricket team became runners-up of the Cricket Competition of the 17th Asian Games when they lost to Pakistan National Women’s Cricket team by four runs in a rain interrupted final at the Yeonhui Cricket Ground in Incheon, South Korea on Friday.Earlier, Bangladesh Women moved to the final when they beat Sri Lanka Women by 25 runs in their semifinal match while Pakistan Women stormed into the final when they defeated China Women by nine wickets in their semifinal clash.By virtue of yesterday’s nail-biting victory, champions Pakistan Women clinched the gold medal while Bangladesh Women bagged silver medal. This is first medal for Bangladesh in the 17th Asian Games.After winning in the coin-session, Pakistan Women decided to bat first and then they made 97 for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs.After Pakistan’s innings, it started to rain and after some time the rain stopped. Then the umpires set a target of 43 runs in seven overs for Bangladesh Women to win, according to the Duckworth/Lewis Method.Needing 43 runs to win, Bangladesh Women were restricted to 38 for the loss nine wickets in seven overs.Opener Rumana Ahmed of Bangladesh scored 10 from 11 balls including one four before she was unfortunately run out by wicketkeeper Sidra Nawaz when Bangladesh’s score was 20 for the loss of two wickets in three overs.Fargana Haque of Bangladesh made 10 off nine balls before she was cleanly bowled out by Sadia Yousuf when the team’s total was 33 for the loss of four wickets in five overs.After dismissal of Rumana Ahmed and Fargana Haque, no Bangladeshi cricketer reached to double digit figures. Three Bangladesh Cricketers were victims of run out. Thus Bangladesh conceded an unfortunate defeat.Sadia Yousuf, Nida Dar and Sana Mir of Pakistan bagged a pair of wickets each instead of two, two and 11 runs respectively.Earlier, Bismah Maroof of Pakistan shone with the willow making 24 from 27 runs with one boundary.Besides, Nain Abidi, Marina Iqbal, Sana Mir and Nida Dar scored 18, 14, 10, 10 (not out) runs respectively.Rumana Ahmed grabbed a couple of wickets at the cost of 13 runs while Jahanara Alam, Fahima Khatun and Salma Khatun took one wicket each for 12, 19 and 22 runs respectively.
