Bangladesh wins silver, bronze in Int’l Math Olympiad

Bangladesh has won a silver and a bronze medal at the 55th International Mathematics Olympiad in South Africa.
Student of Dhaka College, Nur Muhammad Shafiullah won the silver medal while the student of Mymensing Zila School, Adib Hasan won the bronze.
Four other students who got an honorable mention award are Sanzeed Anwar, Asif E Elahi, Sazid Akhter Turzo and Mutasim Mim.
The result, which was announced by International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) on July 12, 2014, is also available on the organisation’s site.
Confirming the feat of Bangladeshi students, President of Bangladesh Mathematical Olympiad, Professor Jamilur Reza Choudhury said the team’s total score is 84 and Bangladesh’s rank is 53 among 101 team. He termed the result best Bangladesh team has made in the last 10 years.
“The most encouraging thing is that comparatively new and young members of the team did well in the Olympiad”, he said. “We hope that we will get more medals in the coming years”.
