Bangladesh U-16 girls got off to a flying start in the AFC U-16 Women’s Championship Qualifiers-2 as they dumped their Philippines counterparts by 10-0 goals in the Group B match in a one-sided affair held on Wednesday at Mandalar Thiri Stadium in Myanmar.
Bangladesh clearly dominated the first half by 6-0 lead and they maintained their dominance till the last whistle. Thanks to a brilliant hat-trick from striker Tahura Khatun while Shamsunnahar Jr and Anuching also scored a brace and Shamsunnahar Sr. Nila and Maria Manda scored one goal each for Bangladesh.
The girls in red and green added four more goals in the second half. This victory will definitely give them a boost before their next match against host Myanmar, which is scheduled to be held on Friday. Bangladesh will play their next match against strong Chinese side on March 3.
The four-team group, which also features China – the strongest team on paper – and hosts Myanmar, will see two teams to advance to the final round.
Bangladesh, which emerged champions at home in the first round of the qualifiers having scored 27 goals and conceding none, had never faced Philippines at any level in women’s football.
