Bangladesh to succeed in achieving SDGs

Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury has expressed his optimism that Bangladesh will do well in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
“I am quite confident that we will do very well in achieving Sustainable Development Goal,” he told a seminar at the Long Gallery of Northern Ireland Assembly building (Stormont) in Belfast, said a press release here on Friday.
Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh High Commission in London Muhammad Zulqar Nain was present at the event.
Saifuzzaman said the present government has been working relentlessly to build a poverty-free and non-discriminatory prosperous Bangladesh. The seminar titled ‘Bangladesh: A Golden Journey to Development’ was sponsored by Mairtin O Muilleoir MLA, Chris Lyttle MLA and Mike Nesbitt MLA of the Northern Ireland Assembly and organised by Study Circle, a UK-based research organisation.
Former Supreme Court Justice AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik and International Affairs Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Dr Shammi Ahmed were present as the speakers.
The event was chaired by Study Circle President Syed Mozammel Ali while M Irt N O Muilleoir delivered the welcome address. Speakers mainly highlighted the development and progress of Bangladesh as one of the world’s fastest-growing economies.
They praised the recent development in Bangladesh and also suggested that the issues related to good governance, climate change, the role of women in politics, Rohingya crisis should be addressed taking effective measures for sustainable economic growth.
Local political representatives, members of the Northern Ireland business community and charity and voluntary sectors, members of the local Bangladeshi community, academics, journalists and diplomats were present at the seminar and participated in the discussion.
