UNB, Dhaka :
Bangladesh U-16 women’s football team will face visiting UAE in their 2nd Group-B match of the AFC Under-16 Women’s Championship 2015 Qualifiers at 5 pm at the Bangabandhu National Stadium here on Friday.
Meanwhile, India will begin their campaign of the tournament against Iran in the day’s first match at 2:00 pm at the same venue.
Satellite TV Channel 9 will telecast both the matches live.
Earlier, in the opening day’s matches on Wednesday, host Bangladesh upset giant Jordan 1-0 while in another match Iran crushed UAE 9-0.
With the stunning win against Jordan, Bangladesh women’s maiden victory in the U-16 international football boosted the team morale.
Jordan came to Bangladesh eying to win the champion’s slot after two months’ training in Germany and Egypt where they played a number of practice matches.
On the other hand, Bangladesh targeted to fight well against all the teams in the tournament, even though they had only 50 days of training. During the training, the U-16 women’s team played only four practice matches against the women’s national team and Narayanganj women’s team.
The young girls displayed their fighting spirit in the first match against Jordan playing with high voltage runs and action from the beginning almost dominating the full duration of the match.
“It is time to show continuation of their performance in the home ground tournament… this is also an opportunity to show spirited football,” said Golam Rabbani Chhoton, head coach of Bangladesh U-16 women’s team, at a post-match briefing on Wednesday.
In the remaining group matches, Bangladesh will face India on October 19 and Iran on October 23.
