Bangladesh to be developed country attaining SDGs: Tofail

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed on Wednesday said Bangladesh would be turned into a developed country by 2041 through attaining the sustainable development goals (SDGs) within 2030.
“Bangladesh has become successful attaining millennium development goals (MDGs) and would be developed country by 2041 conquering the SDGs within stipulated time,” he added.
The minister passed the remarks while addressing the unveiling ceremony of the final evaluation report on MDGs achievement organized by the planning ministry.
He said Bangladesh has proved its efficiency to attain the SDGs through the implementation of MDGs. “Bangladesh has moved ahead than India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan and Afghanistan in attaining MDGs and would achieve success for SDGs before the predetermined time.”
Terming Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as visionary leader, Tofail said Bangladesh is implementing the mega project like Padma Multipurpose Bridge and attain the status of middle-income country in 2021, the golden jubilee of country’s independence.
Referring to Bangladesh success in eliminating poverty, he said, “We would cut down the poverty level below 3 percent by 2030.”
Planning Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal, PM’s Economic Adviser Dr Mashiur Rahman, GED Member Dr Shamsul Alam and World Bank Lead Economist Dr Zahid Hossain, among others, also spoke on the occasion.
