BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday asked the ruling Awami League to apologize to the nation for the gang-rape incident in Subarnachar of Noakhali after the December 30 general polls.
“The Awami League should apologize to the nation as their party men raped a mother of four children one by one in Subarnachar of Noakhali because of voting for Sheaf of Paddy,” Mirza Fakhrul said it while visiting the victim at the Noakhali Sadar Hospital.
Mirza Fakhrul said that his party and Jatiya Oikyafront would stand by the victim.
Several top leaders of JOF were with him at that time.
Mirza Fakhrul consoled the victim and said, “Justice would prevail.”
“We shall stand by you,” Fakhrul said it with tear in eyes.
The BNP leader labeled the incident as a brutal act and asked the administration to ensure justice.
Mirza Fakhrul on behalf of BNP and the JOF handed over monetary assistance to the victim’s family members for treatment and other purpose.
After visiting the victim, the BNP leader talked to journalists about the incident.
He said the government deprived the people of the country from their voting rights.
“Awami League has taken an anti-people stance. The ruling party cannot be the friends of the people as they snatched voting rights of the people,” he said.
“The ruling party has moved to establish its one-party rule as part of its blue print. We have entered a dark era after such an election on December 30,” he said.
The BNP and JOF along with the people of the country will resist such acts to restore democracy,” he said.
JSD President ASM Abdur Rab, Krishak-Sramik Janata League President Abdul Kader Siddiqui, BNP Vice-Chariman Mohammad Shajahan, BNP leaders Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie, Shirin Sultana and other leaders were present.
