Tigers-Windies 1st Test: Bangladesh take upper hand

Bangladesh took the upper hand after declared their second innings making 223 for the loss of eight wickets against West Indies on the fourth day of the first Test at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Saturday.
West Indies were at the stumps at 110 for the loss of three wickets.
Earlier, the Tigers piled up a massive total of 430 in the first innings on the second day (Thursday).
In reply, West Indies scored 259 in the first innings on the third day (Friday).
Bangladesh had overall 284-run lead.
West Indies made a good start as openers Kraigg Brathwaite and John Campbell put up 39 runs in the opening stand before Campbell (23) was trapped leg before wicket by Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
Miraz also shone with the cherry on the fourth day. He captured three wickets in the space of 52 runs.
After Campbell’s dismissal, Brathwaite (23) was caught at the short leg by substitute Yasir Ali off Miraz when the visitors’ total was 48 for the loss of two wickets.
Then Miraz struck again as Shayne Moseley (12) was trapped leg before wicket by the right-arm spinner when the tourists’ score was 59 for the loss of three wickets.
After Moseley’s removal, Nkrumah Bonner and Kyle Mayers built a remarkable partnership adding together 51 runs in the unbroken fourth wicket stand.
Bonner was on 15, while Mayers was on 37 before the two umpires pocketed the bails for the fourth day.
Earlier, Bangladesh resumed their second innings with the over-night score of 47 for the loss of three wickets.
Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim resumed their second innings with the over-night score of 31 and 10 runs respectively.
Momihul and Mushfiqur contributed 40 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Mushfiqur (18) was trapped leg before wicket by Rahkeem Cornwall when the hosts’ total was 73 for the loss of four wickets.
After Mushfiqur’s dismissal, Mominul Haque and Liton Das made a worthy partnership. They put on together 133 runs in the five-wicket stand before Liton Das was caught at the backward point by Kyle Mayers off Jomel Warrican when the Tigers’ score was 206 for the loss of five wickets.
Mominul Haque knocked a patient 115. His 182-ball innings was studded with 10 fours. It was Mominul’s 10th Test century in his career.
Liton Das made a sedate 69. He hit five fours in his 112-ball knock. Liton Fulfilled his sixth Test half century using 96 deliveries with three fours.
After Liton’s dismissal, Mominul Haque could stay at the crease for a short period as he was caught at the deep square leg by Kemar Roach off Shannon Gabriel when Bangladesh’s total was 214 for the loss of six wickets.
After Mominul’s departure, Taijul Islam (3) was bowled out by Warrican when the home side’s score was 222 for the loss of seven wickets.
Then Mehidy Hasan Miraz (7) was bowled out by Warrican and Bangladesh declared their second innings.
Warrican and Cornwall got three wickets each conceding 57 and 81 runs respectively, while Gabriel took two wickets for 37 runs.
