Bangladesh Press Council Day will be observed today for the first time in a befitting manner.
Bangladesh Press Council was established on February 14, 1974 by enacting the Bangladesh Press Council Act by the country’s founding father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to protect press freedom and improving its standard, a press release said here on Monday.
A meeting of the Bangladesh Press Council held here recently took the decision of observing February 14 as Bangladesh Press Council Day to commemorate its founding anniversary.
The meeting also decided to introduce awards for journalists from next year for their contributions to journalism.
The council invited information minister, information secretary, high officials, heads of different organizations of the ministry, editors and acting editors of print and electronic media, presidents and general secretaries of journalist unions and other journalist organizations and noted citizens to observe the day.
