Hosts Bangladesh will face Namibia at the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium in Cox’s Bazar today (Tuesday) with an eye to become the Group A champion of the ICC Under-91 Cricket World Cup.
The match will kick off at 9 am (BST).
ICC full member Bangladesh and ICC associate member Namibia have already confirmed the Cup quarterfinal berth from Group A and will lock horn with each other to be the group champions with all win record.
The winners of Tuesday’s match will meet Group D runners-up Nepal in the first quarterfinal on February 5 at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium while the losers will face Group D champions India in the 2nd quarterfinal final on February 6 at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah.
Bangladesh Youth team smartly booked a seat for the last eight crushing holders South Africa by 43 runs in the opening match on Wednesday and outplayed ICC associate member Scotland by a huge margin of 144 runs on Sunday, featuring a record breaking performance by Nazmul Hossain Shanto, who scored an unbeaten 113 runs.
Bangladesh included Mosaddek Hossain in their line-up in place of off-spinner Sanjit Saha, who was suspended by the ICC on Sunday for suspected illegal bowling action.
On the other hand, Namibia made a good start crushing Scotland by nine wickets on Friday and confirmed the quarterfinal berth eliminating holders South Africa by two wickets on Sunday.
In a pre-match press briefing in Cox’s Bazar on Monday, Bangladesh Coach Mizanur Rahman Bablu said, “Our first target is to play quarterfinal as the group champions.”
Bangladeshi spinner Saleh Ahmed Shawon said, “We want to play the quarterfinal maintaining our winning run and we are capable of doing more better result then the previous U-19 World Cup.”
