Bangladesh piled up a forceful 262 for the loss of seven wickets in 50 overs against Afghanistan in their match of the ICC World Cup Cricket at Southampton in England on Monday.
Mr Dependable Mushfiqur Rahim and ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan played the vital role to register a fighting total for Bangladesh.
Bangladesh had a sorrow start as opener Liton Das (16) was caught at the short cover by Hashmatullah Shahidi off Mujeeb Ur Rahman when Bangladesh’s score was just 16.
After Liton’s departure, Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan built a remarkable partnership. They put on together 49 runs in the second wicket stand before Tamim was bowled out by Mohammad Nabi when Bangladesh’s total was 82 for the loss of two wickets.
Tamim made 36 from 53 balls featuring four fours.
After Tamim’s dismissal, Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim contributed together 61 runs for the third wicket partnership before Shakib was trapped leg before wicket by Mujeeb Ur Rahman when Bangladesh’s score was 143 for the loss of three wickets.
Shakib Al Hasan hit a fine 51. His 69-ball innings saw just one four. It was Shakib’s 45th ODI half century.
Third-down Soumya Sarkar (3) was trapped leg before wicket by Mujeeb Ur Rahman when Bangladesh’s total was 151 for the loss of four wickets.
Second-down Mushfiqur Rahim and fourth-down Mahmudullah Riyad mended the damage adding together 56 runs in the fifth wicket stand before Riyad (27) was caught at the short mid-wicket by Mahammad Nabi off Gulbadin Naib when Bangladesh’s score was 207 for the loss of five wickets.
After Riyad’s dismissal, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mosaddek Hossanin made another remarkable partnership. They put on together 44 runs for the sixth wicket partnership before Mushfiqur was caught at the extra cover by Mohammad Nabi off Dawlat Zadran when the team’s total was 251 for the loss of six wickets.
Mushfiqur Rahim notched up a sparkle 83. His 87-ball knock was laced with four fours and a sixer. Mushfiqur reached his 35th fifty-run landmark using 56 balls with two fours and a six.
Fifth-down Mosaddek Hossain hit a fine 35 from 24 balls featuring four fours before he was cleanly bowled out by Gulbadin Naib when Bangladesh’s innings came to an end.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman captured three wickets at the cost of 39 runs, while Gulbadin Naib bagged a couple of wickets instead of 56 runs.
Mohammad Nabi and Dawlat Zadran got one wicket each conceding 44 and 64 runs respectively.
