Hosts Bangladesh Under-19 Cricket team got off to a flying start in the three-match Youth ODI series outplaying touring West Indies by eight wickets in the first match at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Monday.
Sent in to bat first, the Caribbean youth team were dismissed for 114 runs in 39.2 overs with opener ED Pope making the team highest 31 off 41 balls featuring two fours and three sixes.
Two down EWA Stewart scored 66-ball 30 runs with two fours and one six while one down SD Helmyer made 22-ball 16 runs with three fours.
Bangladeshi left arm orthodox bowler Saleh Ahmed Shawon Gazi made the major damage to the Caribbean innings grabbing four wickets for 24 runs in 9.2 overs and was adjudged the man of the match.
Saeed Sarker and Sanjit Saha took two wickets each conceding 9 and 14 runs respectively.
In reply, Bangladesh Under-19 team easily reached their target making 116 runs in 20.3 overs for the loss of two wickets featuring an unconquered 70 runs in the 3rd wicket stand by Nazmul Hasan Shanta and Saif Hasan.
Two down Nazmul Hossain Shanta contributed an unbeaten 41 runs off 36 balls, including six fours and one six, while opener Saif Hasan added not out 39 runs off 68 balls, hitting five fours and one six and one down Joyraj Sheikh made 17-ball 18 runs, featuring four fours.
DF Smith and O Mecoy took one wicket each giving away 23 and 24 runs respectively.
The remaining two Youth ODI matches between the two teams will be held on January 14 and 16 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong.
