Bangladesh now role model in curbing militancy: IGP

Inspector General of Police Mohammad Javed Patwary yesterday said that Bangladesh is now a role model in curbing terrorism and militancy in the country.
“Bangladesh becomes not only a role model for development in the world, but also a role model in curbing terrorism and militancy in the country”, he said while addressing at a anti-terrorism, militancy and drug rally at Rajshahi University as the Chief Guest.
Student Community Policing and Rajshahi Metropolitan Police in association with the RU authority organized the rally at the university Kazi Nazrul Islam Auditorium to raise awareness against terrorism among the students and build social resistance against the menace where several thousands students took part at the rally.
RMP Police Commissioner Mahabubar Rahman addressed the rally at the chief discussant while Rajshahi range Deputy Inspector General of Police M Khurshid Hossain, RU pro-vice chancellor Professor Ananda Kumar Saha and proctor Professor Md Lutfar Rahman addressed the rally as the special guests with RU vice chancellor Professor M Abdus Sobhan in the chair.
IGP Mohammad Javed Patwary said when we go to attend various symposiums and seminars, the police personnel of other countries ask us about how we brought the terrorism and militancy under control. “Our achievement becomes a learning matter to them”, he said.
IGP said some communities of the country have long been hatching conspiracy to destroy law and order situation, democracy and development of the country through spreading terrorism and militancy. “Being failed to spread the terrorism and militancy, the anti-liberation forces have now chosen drugs to destroy law and order situation, democracy and development of the country”, he said.
Mentioning Yaba as the biggest drug menace in these years, he urged to the people of all walks of life to come forward to eliminate the drugs from the country. “It is not possible us to eliminate drugs only by enforcing law and filing cases. But, if every person comes forward from his own place, it is only after then we will be able to eliminate drugs and militancy from the country”, he said.
RMP Police Commissioner Mahabubar Rahman said now-a-days people of walks of life, including judicial magistrate, police personnel, university teachers and students are taking various drugs including Yaba. “Our duty is to counter the terrorism and drugs while it is all your responsibility to bring the addicted and wrong people bake from their paths”, he said. RU Vice Professor M Abdus Sobhan urged all the university teachers to teach the students moral values in their class rooms. He also urged the students to build themselves with the ideal of the nation’s father, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to continue the country’s ongoing development
