Bangladesh made a fighting total of 238 for the loss of eight wickets in the allotted 50 overs against England in the second One Day International (ODI) match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Sunday.
Bangladesh faced an early batting collapse losing three wickets for 39 runs.
Tamim Iqbal (14), Imrul Kayes (11) and Sabbir Rahman (3) returned to the pavilion showing a poor batting performance.
Later, Mahmudullah Riyad and Mushfiqur Rahim repaired the damage contributing together 50 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Mushfiqur Rahim (21) was caught by Moeen Ali off Jake Ball when Bangladesh’s score was 89 for the loss of four wickets.
Mahumudullah Riyad notched up a sparkle 75 from 88 balls featuring six fours while Mashrafe Bin Mortaza hit a quick-fire 44 off 29 balls including three sixes and two fours.
After dismissal of Mushfiqur Rahim, ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan (3) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Jos Buttler off BA Stokes when the hosts’ score was 113 for the loss of five wickets.
After departure of Shakib, Mahmudullah Riyad and Mosaddek Hossain put on together 48 runs in the sixth wicket stand before Riyad was trapped leg before wicket by Adil Rashid when the home side’s total was 161 for the loss of six wickets.
Mosaddek Hossain scored a worthy 29 from 49 balls with four fours before he was caught by Moeen Ali off Adil Rashid when Bangladesh’s score was 169 for the loss of seven wickets. Nasir Hossain remained unbeaten with 27. He hit two fours in his run-a-ball innings.
After dismissal of Mosaddek, Nasir Hossain and Mashrafe Bin Mortaza added together 69 runs in the eighth wicket stand before Mashrafe Bin Mortaza was run out by Jos Buttler when the Tigers’ total was 238 for the loss of eight wickets.
CR Woakes, Jake Ball, Adil Rashid bagged a pair of wickets each for 40, 44 and 53 runs respectively.
BA Stokes took one wicket at the cost of 22 runs.
