Bangladesh made a fighting total of 264 for the loss of seven wickets in the allotted 50 overs against India in the second semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Thursday.
Bangladesh had an unimpressive start as opener Soumya Sarkar (0) was bowled out by Bhuvneshwar Kumar when Bangladesh’s total was just one run.
One-down Sabbir Rahman also failed with the willow as he (19) was caught at the backward point by Ravindra Jadeja off Bhuvneshwar Kumar when the team’s score was 31 for the loss of two wickets.
After departure of Sabbir, Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim repaired the damage contributing together 123 runs for the third wicket partnership before Tamim Iqbal was cleanly bowled out by Kedar Jadhav when the Tigers’ total was 154 for the loss of three wickets.
Tamim Iqbal hit a chanceless 70. His 82-ball innings was ornamented with seven fours and a sixer. He reached his 38th 50-run landmark using 58 deliveries.
Third-down Shakib Al Hasan failed to shine with the willow as he (15) was caught behind by MS Dhoni off Ravindra Jadeja when the team’s score was 177 for the loss of four wickets.
Second-down Mushfiqur Rahim was caught at the mid-wicket by Virat Kohli off Kedar Jadhav when Bangladesh’s total was 179 for the loss of five wickets.
Mushfiqur Rahim hit a superb 61. His 85-ball knock was belted with four fours. It was Mushfiqur Rahim’s 26th ODI half century.
After dismissal of Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah Riyad and Mosaddek Hossain produced together 39 runs for the sixth wicket partnership before Mosaddek Hossain (15) was caught and bowled by Jasprit Bumrah when the Tigers’ score was 218 for the loss of seven wickets.
Fourth-down Mahmudullah Riyad (21) was cleanly bowled out by Jasprit Bumrah when Bangladesh’s total was 229 for the loss of seven wickets.
Then Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and Taskin Ahmed contributed together 35 runs for the unbroken eight-wicket stand before Bangladesh’s innings came to an end.
Mashrafe remained unbeaten with 30. His 25-ball knock was ornamented with five fours.
Taskin Ahmed remained unbeaten with 10.
Kedar Jadhav, Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar bagged a couple of wickets each for 22, 39 and 53 runs respectively.
Besides, Ravindra Jadeja took one wicket for 48 runs.
