Bangladesh lost to Afghanistan by 224 runs in the rain-interrupted lone Test match on the fifth and final day at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Monday.
Electing to bat first, Afghanistan piled up a mammoth total of 342 in the first innings on the second day (Friday).
In reply, Bangladesh scored 205 in the first innings on the third day (Saturday).
Later, Afghanistan made 260 in the second innings on the fourth day (Sunday).
Bangladesh were dismissed for 173 on the fifth and final day.
Bangladesh scored 136 for the loss of six wickets on the fourth day.
Bangladesh needed 262 runs to win with four wickets in the hand on the fifth and final day.
Shakib Al Hasan and Soumya Sarkar resumed their second innings with the overnight score of 39 and naught respectively.
Shakib Al Hasan could add more five runs on the fifth day before he was caught behind by wicketkeeper Afsar Zazai of Zahir Khan when Bangladesh’s total was 143 for the loss of seven wickets.
Seventh-down Mehidy Hasan Miraz (12) was trapped leg before wicket by Rashid Khan when Bangladesh’s score was 166 for the loss of eight wickets.
Eighth-down Taijul Islam (0) was trapped leg before wicket by Rashid Khan when the hosts’ total was 166 for the loss of nine wickets.
Soumya Sarkar (15) was caught at the short leg by Ibrahim Zadran off Rashid Khan when Bangladesh’s innings came to an end.
Rashid Khan captured six wickets for 49 runs.
Earlier, Rashid Khan claimed five wickets at the cost of 55 runs in the first innings.
Rashid Khan notched up 51 in the first innings and scored 24 runs in the second innings.
Rashid Khan was adjudged the Man of the Match for his all-round performance.
