Basketball: Bangladesh emerge unbeaten champions beating Maldives

Hosts Bangladesh clinched the Citycell SABA 3-on-3 Basketball Championship title with all-win record beating Maldives by 20-09 points in the last match at Dhanmondi Basketball Gymnasium here on Wednesday.
On way to clinching the South Asian Basketball Association (SABA) title, Bangladesh outplayed Bhutan 22-9, beat Sri Lanka 20-09, and defeated Nepal 20-18 to secure full eight points from four matches.
The champion Bangladesh team comprised national players Rasheduzzaman, Mithun Biswas, Shamsuzzaman Khan Shoeb and Khaled Mahmud Akash. The team was trained by national coach Wasif Ali.
Sri Lanka, which bagged seven points from four matches with one defeat, finished runners-up in the five-team fray. Nepal was placed 3rd with six points, Bhutan finished 4th with five points while winless Maldives remained at the bottom with four points.
Food Minister Advocate M Quamrul Islam was the chief guest at the closing function and later distributed the prizes.
Secretary General of Bangladesh Olympic Association Syed Shaheed Reza and Head of the Corporate Communication and Public Relations of meet’s sponsor Citycell Taslim Ahmed were present as special guest.
