Bangladesh retained their supremacy in the SAFF Suzuki Cup Championship beating Pakistan by a solitary goal in their second Group-A match at the flood-lit Bangabandhu National Stadium on Thursday.
After a barren first half, Tapu Barman of Bangladesh scored the all-important goal just three minutes before the long whistle.
All-win Bangladesh collected six points from two matches, while Pakistan earned three points from as many matches. Pakistan got a golden chance in the ninth minute of the play but forward Mohammad Ali’s header was fisted by Bangladesh goalie Sohel.
After the lemon-break, Both teams were engaged in attack and counter attack. It was Tapu Barman, who scored the match-decider by a header using a long throw of his teammate Biswanath Ghosh in the 87th minute of the game.
Bangladesh will take on Nepal in their last Group-A match tomorrow at the same venue. The match kicks-off at 7.00 pm.
