BSS, Dhaka :
Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar said visiting in Bangladesh is always a very special for him as he passed some memorable moments in Bangladesh during his cricketing career.
“Visiting in Bangladesh is always special to me … I got the 100th international century here …… I was given huge honour by the Prime Minister and the people of Bangladesh are very friendly and supportive,” he told at a club’s logo unveiling ceremony ‘Legends of Rupganj’ at the city’s local hotel on Tuesday.
The last time Tendulkar was in Dhaka, he scored his 100th international century during the Asia Cup in 2012. Private sports club ‘Legends of Rupganj’ formerly known as Gazi Tank Cricketers invited the master to unveil the club’s logo.
Planning Minister and ICC president AHM Mustafa Kamal, State Minister for Youth and Sports Sri Biren Sikder MP, Bangladesh national cricket team members, club organisers were, among others, present on the occasion.
Earlier, the master batsman arrived in Dhaka this morning on a one-day visit to unveil the logo of a private sports club of the Dhaka Premier League.
A special fight, carrying the little baluster, landed on Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 11 am.
An hour later, he was flown to Rupganj of Narayanganj on a helicopter where he attended a health-awareness programme organised by the Unicef. This is Sachin’s first visit to Bangladesh after ending his illustrious career in cricket.
Club owner Lutfur Rahman Badal, who is happened to be a Sachin’s good friend, said it is an honour for my club that such a legend has come to unveil its logo.
I think this is the first time that the player has agreed to do anything of this sort. He said his vision is to take the game in a grassroots level.
It’s time to celebrate the journey. Sachin came in my mind when I decided to buy a cricket club. The last time Tendulkar was in Dhaka, he scored his 100th international century during the Asia Cup in 2012.
He is expected leave Dhaka tonight. Legends of Rupganj were formerly known as Gazi Tank Cricketers Club, who won the Premier League — Bangladesh’s lone 50-over domestic competition — title last year.
