Australia kept Bangladesh winless in the super ten round of the ICC World T20 crushing them by seven wickets in the last group 2 match held on Tuesday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur in the city.
Chasing a winning target of 154 runs set by Bangladesh, Australia strolled into the target making 158 in 17.3 overs for the loss of three wickets.
This was the first win for Australia in the super ten stage from their four matches while Bangladesh yet to secure any victory losing also their four matches.
The two openers gave a solid start to Australia contributing 98 runs for the opening stand before the stubborn partnership was broken by pacer Al Amin Hossain.
Right handed opener Aaron Finch played an impressive 45-ball of 71-run hitting seven boundaries and four over boundaries while his partner David Warner supported him with a brilliant knock of 45-ball of 48-run smacking five boundaries and three over boundaries.
Later Cameron White and George Bailey completed the formalities to remain unbeaten on 18 and 11 runs respectively. Al-Amin Hossain was the pick of Bangladesh bowler taking two wickets for 30 runs.
Earlier, a responsible knocks by all rounder Shakib Al Hasan saw Bangladesh scored a competitive total of 153 for 5 from their allotted 20 overs against Australia.
Batting first after winning the toss, Bangladesh faced batting jolt losing both their openers early in t he 12 runs on the scoreboard.
Then Shakib Al Hasan and skipper Mushfiqur Rahim took the responsibility to repair the early damage contributing 112 runs for the third wicket stand to take the team to a comfortable position.
The left handed all rounder Shakib, played a responsible 52- ball of 66-run hitting five boundaries and three over boundaries while Mushfiq supported him with a priceless 36-ball of 47-run with the help of five boundaries and one over boundary.
After the departure of two set batmen the rests failed to build any effective partnership losing wickets in regular intervals.
Pacer Nathan Coulter-Nile was the most successful bowler for Australia taking two wickets giving away 17 runs.
