The touring Bangladesh will face host Sri Lanka in the 2nd Test at P Sara Oval in Colombo today. The match starts at 10.30 am. It is noteworthy that it is Bangladesh’s 100th Test after getting status in June 2000.
Bowling Coach of Bangladesh team Courtney Walsh said, ” 100th Test is a special something. It is a matter of pride. The boys will try their best to win the Test.”
He said, “the players of Bangladesh need consistence, patience and control. I expect a good result in the 2nd Test. We want to celebrate this match with victory. I think the boys are prepared for that.”
Bowling Coach of Sri Lanka team Champaka Ramanayake said, ” Bangladesh have advanced a lot. To play 100 test is not an easy task. I watched the performance of Bangladesh in 2008 to 2010. Bangladesh have improved a lot from previous years. They are playing good. Their future is bright. Bangladesh are becoming experienced side day by day. Specially they are performing well in their home grounds.”
He said, ” They have to win abroad. It is a tough task. The teams of sub-continent battle for win. Bangladesh are good side. They have to keep patience. If they achieve confidence, they will win match by match and earn success.”
The first day of the second Test match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka at the P Sara Oval will be a historic event, which will see the Bangladesh national team marking its 100th match in Test history.
“We would like to recognise the participating teams and give the team medals before the game for playing this match. This is a historic occasion for Bangladesh and we are happy that they are sharing it us with,” said President Sri Lanka Cricket Thilanga Sumathipala.
Commenting on the performance of the team, he added that the Bangladesh team has come a long way in cricket. “Their participation has improved, economics of the game has improved. Bangladesh now have a very mature, world-class cricketing structure. We are very proud and happy for Bangladesh.”
While in Galle during the first test, he also remarked about Bangladesh acquiring test status. “During 1998, I was the President the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka. We voted for Bangladesh for Test status. I was also the President of Asian Cricket Council at the time. As an ACC initiative, we also sent four coaches for age-level cricket (U-13, 15, 17, 19). We have been helping each other since then and the team itself has come a long way.”
