The historic Homecoming Day of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed on Wednesday in Khulna city in a befitting manner.
On January 10, 1972, Bangabandhu returned to the independent and sovereign Bangladesh after over nine and a half months’ captivity in a Pakistan jail.
Khulna city and district units of Awami League and its associate organisations observed the Homecoming Day with different programmes. Marking the day, leaders and workers of the party hoisted national and party flags atop the party office and placed floral wreaths at the sculpture of Bangabandhu on the Khulna Press Club premises.
Besides, they held a discussion highlighting the life and works of Bangabandhu along with his contribution to the nation’s War of Liberation.
Khulna district AL president Sheikh-Harun-ur Rashid chaired the meeting and some front-ranking leaders including president and general secretary of city AL Talukder Abdul Khaleque and Mizanur Rahman Mizan, MP, spoke on the occasion.
A milad and doa mahfil was also held at the party office seeking salvation for the departed soul of Bangabandhu.
Staff Reporter from Kishoreganj reports : Bangabandhu’s Homecoming Day was observed in Kishoreganj on Wednesday.
 To mark the Day, District Awami League, Kishoreganj Unit chalked out various programmes. The programmes include hoisting of national and party flags at the District Awami League office, placing of wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu and four national leaders.
A discussion meeting was held at the District Awami League office. Kamrul Ahsan Shajahan President of District Awami League presided over the meeting.
 Adv Md. Zillur Rahman, Chairman, Zilla Parishad, Adv M A Afzal, General Secretary, Awami League Vice-President Advocate M.A Rashid, Awami League Advocate Mahbubul Hoque, Former Kishoreganj Municipality Chairman Nurul Islam Nuru, Kishoreganj Municipality Mayor Md. Pervez Mia, Anwar Hossain Bacchu General Secretary Krishak League, Awami League Leader Advocate Aminul Hoque Chunnu, Advocate Saiful Hoque Sajan, Sadar Awami League President Advocate Ataur Rahman, its General Secretary Principal Sharif Sadi, District Awami League Joint Secretary Adv Abu Sayeed Imam, its Member Anayet Karim Omi, women leader Bilkis Begum and others spoke on the occasion.
BSS from Rajshahi adds: Local unit of Bangladesh Awami League and it’s front organizations observed the homecoming day of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in a befitting manner here on Wednesday.
Marking the day, leaders and workers of the party hoisted national and party flags atop party offices and garlanded the portraits of Bangabandhu Sheikh MujiburRahman and four other national leaders in the morning.
They also brought out a rally that paraded some of the city streets and ended on the party office premises at Kumarpara. Besides, a discussion meeting was held highlighting the life and works of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
City Unit President of Rajshahi AL AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and its General Secretary Dablu Sarker and some other front-ranking leaders spoke on the occasion. Rajshahi College unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League brought out a huge rally in the city marking the historic day.
Meanwhile, the Homecoming Day was observed at Rajshahi University through various programmes. The university administration brought out a rally on the campus.
They placed floral wreaths on the central Shaheed Minar marking the day.
VC Prof Abdus Sobhan and Pro-VC Prof Ananda Kumar Shaha and other high officials and students leaders were present at the programme.
Besides, RU unit of Bangabandhu Parishad and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall also observed the day.
