The government has a plan to construct a new international airport-Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib International Airport-near Dhaka.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon said this in Parliament while responding to a written question from Awami League MP M Abdul Latif (Chittagong-11).
He said that the aim of constructing the airport is to make Bangladesh a civil aviation hub in the region.
Menon said that his ministry has approved a project to appoint a consultant for the feasibility study for the scheme.
“Five organisations have been shortlisted, and request for proposal (RFP) has been issued,” he said.
Menon said that the last date of submitting RFP is Monday (February 8).
He said that the deadline for completing a detailed feasibility study is June, 2017.
“Later, the main work of the project will commence after the selection of the location,” he added.
