Tazreen tragedy: Bail plea for owner rejected

Dhaka’s District and Sessions Judge’s Court yesterday rejected the bail petition of Tazreen Fashions’ Managing Director (MD) Delwar Hossain and set March 20 to pass order on the prosecution’s petition to scrap the bail of Delwar’s wife and also the Chairperson of the company Mahmuda Akter Mita.
Judge Md Abdul Majid of the court pronounced the order. Earlier, Khandaker Abdul Mannan, Chief Public Prosecutor of Dhaka argued on behalf of the state while Kazi Nazibullah Hiru, ATM Golam Daud and Abu Bakr Farhad moved the bail petition on behalf of the defence.
On December 22, police submitted charge sheet against 13 people, including the chairperson and the Managing Director for
the devastating fire in the garment factory.
At least 112 people were killed and over 200 others suffered injury in the fire that raged through the Tazreen Fashions at Nischintapur in Ashulia on the outskirts of capital Dhaka on November 24 in 2012.
The following day a case was lodged with Ashulia Police Station in connection with the fire. Later, the case was transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
