3 hijackers held with
motor cycle at Rampal
After hijacking a sum of Tk.15 thousand 2 hundred from Taroknath, a field worker of a local NGO named ASHA 3 youths were caught along with a motor cycle ( Khulna Metro-La-11-9305) by the locals on Khulna-Mongla Highway at Saguna under Rampal Upazila in Bagerhat on Sunday . Later, they were handed over to police. The arrestees are : Mithun Shaikh (28), son of one Salam Shaikh of village Pabantala within Baintala Union under Rampal Upazaila in the district, Ratan Mallik (20), son of one Mozaffar Mallik of the same village and Salam Shaikh (22), son of one Sayeed Shaikh of village Saguna under the same Upazila. Police and locals said , on the day the NGO field worker Taroknath was returning from Baintala union to its Foila bazar office after collecting monthly installments from its beneficiaries of the different places of the Union and when he reached the palace of occurrence the hijackers boarded on the motor cycle stopped him, beat him mercilessly, snatched away his moneybag and tried to flee away. Then some locals including a housewife named Shaina Begum of the adjacent village Adarsh Gram appeared there and tried to resist them. But the hijackers after beating the locals tried to flee away. As a result, housewife Shaina Begum and the NGO field officer were seriously injured. She was admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital for treatment. But by this time some other locals appeared there, chased the hijackers and caught them along with the motor cycle and the hijacked money. Then they were handed over to the police of Foila police outpost after they were given a gang beating. Rafiqul Islam, IC of Foila police outpost told, the hijacked money (a sum of Tk15200) recovered from the hijackers was refunded to the officials of the NGO Asha and the arrestees were handed over to the police of Rampal PS. Tuhin Hawladar, OC of Rampal PS said, a case was registered.
National Mourning
Day observed
The National Mourning Day-2019 and 44th martyrdom of the architect of Independence and the Father of the Nation Bangubandhu Shaikh Mujibor Rahman was observed in Bagerhat district town and its all the nine upazilas with due respect and solemnity by the district administration, Upazila administrations and political and socio-cultural organisations as else where of the country. Different programmes including rally, discussion meeting, Doa Mahfil, Quran Khani etc. were held in the district town to mark the day. In the morning a grand rally that was brought out from the local Swadhinata Udyan under the banner of the district administration paraded the main roads of the district town. It was led by Alhaj Dr Mozammel Hossain, MP of Bagerhat Constituency-4, President of Bagerhat District Awami League and a former minister, Md Mamnur Rashid, DC, Bagerhat and Pankaj Chandra Roy, Police Super of Bagerhat.
Housewife hacked
to death
Minara Begum (45), wife of one Parveez Shikdar (50) of village Madhabkathi within Dhopakhali Union under Kachua Upazila in Bagerhat district was hacked to death by husband recently. Police said , Minara Begum and Parvez Shikdar were married long 25 year ago. By this time they became the parents of 2 daughters. But the husband had been good for nothing since their marriage. As a result, very often they were involved in quarrel. Finding no other alternative Minara Begum adopted the profession of exorcism to maintain the family. In spite of that they used to be involved in family quarrels off and on. At the night of occurrence such a quarrel took place between the two and when it reached its climax the husband became furious and hacked the wife to death. After the incident the husband tried to commit suicide by taking poison. Being informed of the matter, a police squad of Kachua PS rushed to the spot and recovered the dead body. It was later sent to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital for autopsy . Police arrested the alleged killer husband. In this connection a case was registered with the PS.
Decomposed body recovered
A badly decomposed dead body of an unidentified man was recovered from Ghatvila point of Khulna-Mawa Highway under Mollahat Upazil in Bagerhat district recently. It is learnt from the police that some one found the decomposed dead on the Highway and informed the police of Mollahat PS of the matter. Being informed of the matter a police squad led by SI Abdus Sattar rushed to the spot at 11 pm and recovered the decomposed dead body from there.
