Fish cultivator killed by lightning in Fakirhat
A fish cultivator named Monir Hossain Moni (50), son of one Karim Hossain Shaikh of village Tekathia within Shuvodia Union under Fakirhat Upazila in Bagerhat district was killed by lightning in the Gaighar (watch room) of his fish farm on Saturday. It is stated by Md. Shahidul Islam, local; UP Chairman that in the morning at about 6 am while the ill-fated fish cultivator was sleeping in the Gaighar all on a sudden a lightning flashed on it and as a result, he was killed on the spot.
Birth anniv of poet Kazi Nazrul Islam celebrated
Under the joint auspicious of Bagerhat district administration and Bagerhat Sanskritik Foundation the 120th birth anniversary of National poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was celebrated in the district town in a befitting manner on Saturday. On the occasion , a lively discussion meeting was held in the Sanskritik Foundation in the afternoon on the life and works of the poet with Zahurul Islam, ADC (Gen), Bagerhat in the chair. Dr. Al-haj Moazammel Hossain MP and President of Bagerhat district unit of Bangladesh Awami League addressed the discussion as Chief Guest. The meeting was also addressed among others by Prof. Chowdhury Adur Rob, President of SANAC (Sachetan Nagaric Committee), Bagerhat, Md. Rafiqul Islam, District Cultural Officer, Bagerhat, Razia Parvin, Upazila Woman Vice-chairman of Bagerhat Sadar, Mir Fazle Sayeed Dublue, General Secretary of Bagerhat Sanskritik Foundation, Headmistress Monira Sultana Elija, Amatul Hafiz and poet Manik Mahmud.
Minor boy drowns in Sharankhola
A minor boy named Shuvo Risi (12) met his tragic end when he was drowned in pond at Rayenda Bazar, Upazila headquarters of harankhola in Bagerhat district on Sunday noon. Indro Rishi, elder brother of the decease told the newsmen, we used to reside in Dhaka. On last Wednesday we returned to our paternal grand father’s esidence at Rayenda in order to be enlisted our names in the new voter list. He added, Shuvo did not know how to swim. But in spite of that he went to local Snali mosque pond to take bath in it with some other boys. But at one stage he was drowned in the pond. After a long search the body of Shuvo was recovered from the pond and was rushed to the Sharankhola Upazila Health Complex where the doctor duty declared him dead.
Iftar Party held
Under the auspicious of Bagerhat district unit of Bangladesh Chemist and Druggist an Iftar party and Dopa Mahfil was held in the local hotel Castle Ashara on Sunday evening with Abanish Kuimar Chakrabarty Sona, President of the association in the chair.
