Founding anniv of AL observed  
Under the auspices of Bagerhat district Awami League and its front organizations the 69th founding anniversary of Bangladesh Awami League was celebrated in Bagerhat district town on Saturday as else where of the country. Earlier Bagerhat Unit of Bangladesh Awami League and its front organizations chalked out an elaborate programme to celebrate the day in a befitting manner.
The day’s programme started with the ceremonial hoisting of National and party flags in its local Rail Road office premises in the morning. It was followed with the placing of floral wreaths on the portraits of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Shaikh Mujibor Rahman. Later a special prayer and Doa Mahfil was held in the Awami League office premises for the salvation of the departed soul of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Shaikh Mujibor Rahman. It was followed by a colourful rally that was brought out from AL office premises paraded the main roads of the district town and ended at its starting point where later a lively discussion meeting was held on the significance of the day. It was addressed among others by Adv. Farid Uddin Ahmed, vice-president of Bagerhat district Awami League, Adv. Shah-e-Alam Baschu, Adv. Kazi Manwar Hossain, Adv. Ali Akbor, Kazi Mukit Hossain Jhnatu, Sardar Fakrul Alam Saheb, Joint Secretary of Bagerhat district Awami League, Manwar Hossain Tagor, Al-haj Abdul Baki Talukdar, President of Bagerhat district Tanti League, Sardar Nasir Uddin, convener of Bagerhat Jubo League, Rezaur Rahman Mantu, President of Sramik League and Khan Abu Bakr Sidique.

Business man meets tragic end  
Shaikh Azizur Rahman (65), owner of M/S. Imran Traders of Fakirhat main Bazar under Fakirhat Upazila in Bagerhat district met his tragic end when he fell into a ditch full of clay in a fish farm in his village at Satshoira under the same Upazila on Friday afternoon.
Locals said that on the day ill-fated Azizur Rahman went to his fish farm, adjacent to his village residence and engaged in removing dried leaves from banana plants. But at one stage he was suddenly attacked with epilepsy and fell into a ditch full of clay. As a result his head was logged with mud and was suffocated to death. At that time other members of his family were absent from the house. After returning home they did not find him. Then they searched him hither and thither and at last found him dead in the ditch He was the son of late Asgar Shaikh of the village.

18 sacks VGD rice seized by police
Some 18 bags VGD rice was seized by the police from ‘Naim Store’ of Betkata bazar within Bhozpatia Union Parishad under Rampal Upazila in Bagerhat district on Saturday evening. One of the shopkeepers of the bazar who is unwilling to disclose his name told, local UP member brought the VGD rice to the bazar and handed over the same to the shop. Police seized the rice and placed the same under the custody of local UP member Asaduzzaman. The owner of Naim Store told, people of the localities are not habituated to take boiled rice. They prefer un-boiled rice to boiled rice. But the VGD rice is boiled. So, one of the VGD card holders exchanged 30 kg boiled VGD rice with 25 kg un-boiled rice from his shop through the concerned Union Parishad. Tariqul Islam, VGD officer of Rampal Upazila told, the matter is being invested in order to find out how the VGD rice reached the shop of the local bazar. Lutfor Rahman, OC of Rampal PS told, being informed of the matter from a number of local people police raided the shop, seized 18 bag VGD rice and placed the same under the custody of local UP member Asaduzzaman.

Newly married wife commits suicide
Kakali Biswas (20), newly married wife of one Achinta Biswas of village Tekathia within Shuvodia Union Parisahd under Fakirhat Upazila in Bagerhat district committed suicide by taking poison at Thursday night, according to a delayed report received here. It is learnt from the police that at the night Kakali Biswas took poison without the knowledge of inmates of the house and fell ill.
