Entertainment Desk :
Country’s one of the top models and actresses Azmeri Haque Badhon received guardianship of her only child Michele Amani Saira on Monday. The verdict was given by Dhaka’s 12th District and Session Court’s Assistant Judge where he stated: “The guardian of the daughter is her mother and she will stay in her custody. The child’s father can visit her twice a month in the presence of her mother. But for the betterment of her daughter the mother’s decision will be held as final. So, she won’t just receive general custody, whereas she will get the child’s complete guardianship.”
The popular model and TV actress is very happy with verdict. Badhon told the press that she had fought for her daughter’s custody for the last nine months as she was worried about the child’s safety.
She also said that now she is relieved that the court has granted her full guardianship of her daughter instead of just general custody.
Badhon officially got divorced with her ex-husband Mashrur Siddiqi Sonet on November 26, 2014. Then last year on August her husband forcefully took away her daughter from her home and wanted to take her with him and his current wife to Canada. Badhon filed a case to get her custody back.
She also told the press that her husband has seized her daughter Saira’s passport and the court has issued an order to surrender the child’s passport. If not, then the defendant is to file another case in the local police station and the court will issue a letter with an order for a new passport for her daughter and send it to their local police station and passport office.
Saira is currently six years old and reading in KG-I in Sunbeams School. On the other hand, Badhon’s lawyer Dilruba Sharmin said that this is a historic verdict and will set an example in the subcontinent.
Badhon also said that she never claimed the five lakh taka denmohor, the alimony that is mandatory under Islamic law. She also added that the father never gave any money for her daughter and she never claimed any. But she claimed it this time at the court as she thinks that it is a right of a daughter to receive financial support from her father and also a father’s duty, which she took care of all these years.
Moreover, during the verdict, Badhon’s ex-husband was not present at the court. His lawyer attended the session on his behalf.
