Police arrested the torturer husband Md Shafiqul from Sylhet on Monday on charge of beating his wife Babita tying her up with a tree.
Police said, Shafiqul, army personnel, was arrested from Sylhet Cantonment
area at about 7:30 pm.
Officer -in Charge of Lohagora Police Station Md Lutfar Rahman said “The investigation officer of the case SI Nazrul Islam arrested the accused.”
Earlier on Sunday, the High Court directed the police to arrest within 48 hours the persons involved in torturing the housewife [Babita] and also asked the law enforcers to ensure the victim’s treatment and safety.
Babita Khanom, a wife of an army man, was reportedly tortured by her husband and other members of her in-laws house at Shalbarat village of Lohagara upazila under Narail district on April 30.
The victim’s mother Khadija Begum filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act with the Lohagara police station five days after the incident.
