Former state minister for home Lutfozzaman Babar, a condemned convict in the 10-truck arms haul cases, on Thursday cursed the judge of a Chittagong court for awarding him death penalty.
A Chittagong Metropolitan Special Tribunal-1 handed down death penalty to 14, including him (Babar) for smuggling in 10 truckloads of firearms in 2004. The court also awarded life term imprisonment to the
14 convicts in another case filed under the Arms Act.
“The verdict is stage-managed. I seek justice from Almighty Allah, so that the judge gets punishment for handing me down the verdict illegally,” a discontented Babar told reporters in his immediate reaction after the delivery of verdict on the court premises.
The then state minister for home, who appeared apparently too surprised to see the lethal weapon in April, 2004, also cursed the children of the judge and aspired so that they also suffered for the “misdeed” of their father.
“I have been deprived of justice. There is another Judge. I will get justice on the Day of Judgement,” he added.
