UNB, Dhaka :
President of Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) Dr AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury on Saturday put forward three proposals, including formation of a national government under the leadership of the President, to overcome the current political deadlock.
“As per the media rapports, the diplomats of the friendly countries have given three proposals to Khaleda Zia to resolve the crisis in the country and the BNP chairperson accepted the proposal for forming a national government
comprising all parties under the President. But, I think, three more conditions need to be added to the proposal the BNP chief accepted for permanently getting rid of the crisis,” he said.
B’ Chowdhury, also a former president of the country, came up with the proposals while addressing a programme at the Jatiya Press Club arranged by Sammilita Peshajibi Parishad.
As per his first proposal, the national government will have to be formed with some elected members of the 9th parliament as the 10th one is illegal. But, those will be made ministers or members of the national government will not be eligible for contesting the 11th parliamentary elections.
According to his second proposal, the national government after its formation will first constitute a neutral Election Commission to ensure the participation of all parties in the polls.
The BDB chief’s third proposal is that the next election will have to be held within three to six months after the formation of the national government.
B Chowdhury believes democracy will be restored if the political parties accept the proposals.
Addressing the programme, noted Jurist Barrister Rafiqul Haque suggested holding a referendum to have public opinion whether a snap election is necessary or not in the country.
