UNB, Dhaka :
Though a peaceful political situation prevails in the country, the Australian government on Friday issued an updated travel alert advising Australians to exercise a high degree of caution in Bangladesh.
“There is an ongoing threat of terrorism in Bangladesh, including against Western interests. The level of advice has not changed. We continue to advise Australians to exercise a high degree of caution in Bangladesh,” the Australian High Commission in Dhaka said in a message posted on its official website.
Exercising a high degree of caution means there are more numerous or significant risks in this location
than what they would typically find in a large Australian city.
“Importantly, we are not saying “don’t go” to this location. Rather, you should research specific threats and take extra precautions. You should pay close attention to your personal security at all times. Monitor the media and other sources about possible new security threats,” it said.
It said there is an ongoing threat of terrorism in Bangladesh. Bangladesh has experienced a number of terrorist incidents in the past and security agencies in Bangladesh continue to arrest people connected to militant and terrorist organisations. “Some of these groups have an anti-Western outlook. Further attacks are possible, including against Western interests.”
