‘Aug 15 carnage biggest tragedy in nation’s history’

Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal on Friday arranged a discussion at Shaheed Col Taher Auditorium at the city’s Bangabandhu Avenue ahead of the ‘National Mourning Day’.
Besides, leaders of JSD also paid homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by laying wreath at his portrait.
JSD President Hasanul Haq Inu, MP, presided over the discussion.
JSD General Secretary Shirin Akhter, MP, vice-presidents Mir Hossain Akhter, Nurul Akhter and Fazlur Rahman Babul, freedom fighters Shafi Uddin Mollah and Mohar Ali Chowdhury and Joint General Secretary Nader Chowdhury also spoke, among others, on the occasion.
Inu, also the Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said August 15 carnage is a big tragedy in the history of the nation.
The killers showed the most heinous barbarism, cruelty and savagery by killing Bangabandhu and most of his family members on August 15, 1975, he said.
The assassination of Bangabandhu was very well-planned as the killers not only wanted to kill Bangabandhu physically, but also wanted to kill the spirit or soul of Bangladesh, he added.
Criticizing BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, he said Begum Zia’s soul does not belong to Bangladesh and the Bangalees as she celebrates her and BNP’s birthday on August 15.
JSD General Secretary Shirin Akhter said that the assassination of Bangabandhu on 15 August 1975 was the most spiteful blow to Bangladesh by the defeated evil forces of the War of Liberation.
She said the main aim of the August 15 assassination was not only to assassinate Bangabandhu but also to destroy the pro-liberation forces, including JSD.
Before holding the discussion, leaders and activists of Dhaka Mohanagar JSD, Jatiya Sramik Jote-Bangladesh, Jatiya Nari Jote, Jatiya Jubo Jote, Jatiya Krishok Jote, Muktijoddha Sangram Parishad, Jatiya Ainjibi Parishad and Bangladesh Chhatra League also paid homage to Bangabandhu by placing wreaths at his portrait.
