Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) of police arrested at least five members of a family, including a “Sonali Bank Official (AGM), allegedly by involved with banned militant outfit Ansar-al-Islam from a building in city’s Rupnagar on Saturday.
Three among the detainees were identified as Abu Saleh Mohammad Jakaria, Kibria and Ahammad Ali.
During the drive, three policemen and suspected militant were injured.
Police also claimed to have seized country made weapons, a large number of objectionable books, and leftovers of explosives from the spot.
Md Mahiduzzaman, Superintendent of Police (Media) of Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU), confirmed the matter to the media that sensing presence of the law enforcers, members of the militant outfit exploded bombs and attacked police with locally made weapons. In self defense, law enforcers opened seven rounds of bullets.
