Our correspondent :
Police have stopped the construction of a brick wall to occupy the BADC (Fertilizer) government land on the outskirts of Ramgarh Municipal Council in Khagrachhari. The incident of Upchester occupying government land in the heart of the municipal council has created a backlash in the entire area.
According to the sources, a man started the construction of a brick wall to occupy the land inside the BADC (Fertilizer) abandoned warehouse on the side of Khagrachhari Road adjacent to Ramgarh Power Department and Press Club.
After receiving the news on Saturday morning, Assistant Director of the concerned department Md. Nurul Afshar came from Rangamati and stopped the work with the help of police.
During the Pakistan period in the subdivision, BADC’s fertilizer warehouse and office building were constructed here.
After the closure of activities at the upazila level in the nineties, the installations with huge warehouses and offices were abandoned. At this opportunity, dishonest people are trying to seize this high priced government place.
Md. Nurul Afshar, Assistant Director, BADC (Fertilizer) Rangamati, said a man on the west side of the abandoned warehouse started construction of a brick wall to occupy government land.
He came to Ramgarh on Saturday and stopped work with the help of the police after receiving the news of Chester occupying the space inside the boundary pillar of the warehouse.
He further said that the officer-in-charge of the police station and the upazila chairman have been informed about the matter verbally. Khagrachhari Deputy Commissioner will also be informed in writing about this.
Ramgarh Police Station OC Mohammad Samshuzzaman said that after receiving a complaint from the concerned department officials, the police went to the spot to protect the government property and stopped the construction of the wall.
He added that a man named Abu Mia was claiming the place as his own. For this reason, it has been decided to measure the government space of BADC in the presence of the concerned officials including the Upazila Executive Officer, AC Land.
Meanwhile, questions have been raised about the acceptability of the claim of having a public place within the boundaries of this ancient government department.
