A police check post came under attack on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Chandina upazila of Comilla district on Tuesday, a day after an attempted bomb attack to snatch away militants in Gazipur and another attack on some police officials in Dinajpur.
The law enforcers also arrested two suspect members of the Jamatul Mijahidin Bangladesh (JMB) in this connection.
Injured Hasan, 22, and Jashim, 20, who received bullet injuries in his body. Both the accused were admitted to Comilla Medical College and Hospital immediately, said Shah Mohammad Abid Hossain, Superintendent of Police (SP).
The attackers also hurled a crude bomb at law enforcers and tried to flee during a routine check by a passenger bus around 12:00pm, the SP said.
They also recovered several unexploded bombs from the spot, he said.
In Dinajpur, at least five persons, including Additional Police Superintendent Mahfuz Zaman Ashraf, sustained injuries during a raid to nab gamblers in Nababganj area of Dinajpur district on Monday night.
All but Ashraf were released after primary treatmentfrom Dinajpur Medical College and Hospital. The attackers hacked his head with a sharp weapon, doctors said.
Ashraf led a team of district detective branch (DB) to arrest gamblers at south Boalmari village under Binodpur Union of Nababganj Monday night, said Birampur Circle ASP Hafizur Rahman.
A chase and counter-chase took place between the police and the criminals at that time. Later the gamblers attacked the law enforcers together with the villagers around 10:30pm, leaving five of them injured.
On Monday, suspected militants hurled several bombs into a convoy of four prison vans in the Tongi College Gate area in Gazipur. The vans were transporting several militants, including Mufti Hannan, from a Dhaka court to Kashimpur High Security Jail.
“We had information that militants had communicated with prisoners inside jails for making a plan to snatch away Hannan,” said Deputy Commissioner of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of the DMP Mohibul Islam.
Mizanur Rahman, Senior Jail Super of Kashimpur High Security Jail, said four prison vans carried prisoners, including Mufti Hannan and some other militants, in a Dhaka court for hearing.
