A Dhaka court on Sunday sentenced ATM Shamsuzzaman’s youngest son ATM Khalequzzaman Kushol to life term imprisonment on charge of killing his eldest brother ATM Kamruzzaman Kabir.
Judge Shahed Nur Uddin of Dhaka’s Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 also fined the convict Tk 50,000 and he will have to suffer one year more rigorous imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine.
Mother and sister of both the victim and the accused were present at the courtroom when the judgment was being pronounced.
Kamruzzaman Kabir was stabbed to death by his youngest brother
Khalequzzaman Kushol at their Sutrapur residence in the capital on March 13, 2012.
Their father of the victim and accused renowned actor ATM Shamsuzzaman filed a murder case with Sutrapur Police Station in this connection on the same day.
On March 16, Kushol made confessional statement to the court admitting his guilt.
The Investigation Officer (IO) of the case submitted the charge sheet of the case on June 25, 2012 showing 22 people as prosecution witnesses. Of them the court recorded the depositions of 14 witnesses to give the verdict.
The court framed the charges of the case against the accused on December 12, 2012.
