The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Court of Dhaka yesterday placed suspended Councilor of Dhaka South City Corporation’s Ward No 30 Erfan Selim and his bodyguard Zahid on a three-day remand each in a case filed on the charge of attacking Lieutenant Wasif Ahmed Khan of Bangladesh Navy in Dhanmondi area of the capital on Sunday (October 25) night.
ACMM Muhammad Asaduzzaman Nur passed the remand order after hearing on Wednesday.
Earlier, Dhanmondi Police Station Inspector Ashfaq Rajib Hasan, the Investigation Officer of the case, produced them in the court seeking a seven-day remand for interrogation in the case. Meanwhile, four separate cases were filed against Erfan Selim, the suspended Councilor of Ward No. 30 of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), and his bodyguard Zahid under the Arms Act and Narcotics Control Act on early wednesday.
Delwar Hossain, Inspector (operation) of Chwakbazar Police Station filed two cases each against them early Wednesday for possessing illegal firearms and drugs, said duty officer Sub-Inspector Shah Newaz.
On Sunday night, a video of Lieutenant Wasif screaming for justice before the public after being assaulted by Erfan and his few accomplices went viral on social media.
The attack took place in the Kalabagan bus stop area about 7:45pm on Sunday, when the naval officer protested after his motorcycle was hit by Erfan’s car, which had a parliament sticker.
Lieutenant Wasif Ahmed Khan filed a case with Dhanmondi Police Station on Monday night, naming four accused including AB Siddique Dipu and two to three other unnamed persons.
The three named accused are Erfan Selim, 37, Md Zahid, 35, and Md Mizanur Rahman, 30.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Erfan Selim, a councilor of Ward 30 of Dhaka South City Corporation and Md Zahid after conducting a raid in the house of Erfan, at Old Dhaka on Monday.
A mobile court led by RAB Executive Magistrate Sarwar Alam jailed the lawmaker’s son and Zahid for a year each after illegal guns, ammunition, liquor, walkie-talkies and handcuffs were found during the raid.
On the same day, a Dhaka court placed Erfan’s driver Mizanur Rahman, who was arrested immediately after the incident, on a day’s remand in the case.
