ASI held for taking bribe at DU

An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Shahbagh Police Station was withdrawn to the Ramna Zone of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Monday on the charge of threatening an university student of filing case if his demanded amount of Tk 50,000 was not made by him (student).
 The ASI has been identified as Shaymal Dutta, while the student as Mohammad Riadul Islam, a student of first year, Department of Management, Dhaka University, police said.
 Sirajul Islam, OC of the police station said that Shaymal demanded Tk 50,000 repeatedly in cell phone from Mohammad Riadul Islam. In case of failure, the Police officer threatened of filing case.
 “Riad agreed apparently and asked the ASI to come to the TSC to take the money. The moment Shaymol reached there, Riad with the help of some of his friends intercepted him and handed over to the Shahbagh Police Station in presence of the university Protector Professor M Amzal Ali,” the police official said.
The SI had been withdrawn to the Ramna Zone of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Monday, the OC said. A probe committee was also formed in this connection and legal action would follow if he was found guilty of the charge brought against him, the OC added.
Earlier, the ASI took the Raid’s cell phone forcibly when he was gossiping with her girl friend at Suhrawardy Udyan on Saturday evening. He threatened Riad several times of filing case if the demanded money was not made.
