Art for Dream exhibition at British Council

The British Council, in partnership with Street Children LEEDO and Gallery KARIKOR, organised an art exhibition titled Art for Dream from 19 to 21 September 2019 in its Cultural Centre at Fuller Road. The exhibition was held for three consecutive days from 09.00 A.M. to 08.00 P.M. and was opened for all.
On 31 August 2019, a day-long art camp was held at Peace Home, Washpur, Keraniganj participated by less fortunate street-connected children. Renowned artist and right activist Shahana Mojumder was the mentor of the camp. The paintings collected from the art camp were exhibited in this art exhibition. Besides that, Shahana Mojumder also donated some of her artworks for the noble cause. The fund raised from the exhibition was donated to LEEDO for the development of street-connected children’s life and lifestyle.
The inaugural ceremony of this event was held on Thursday, 19 September 2019 at Peace Home, Washpur, Keraniganj, accompanied by a delegation team of British MPs led by Anne Main, MP and President of Conservative Friends of Bangladesh (CFOB), Deputy Chairperson of Conservative Party, UK and Mr Paul Stuart Scully, Vice President of CFOB. Other members of the delegation were Mr Mahfuz Ahmed chairman of CFOB, Mr Abdus Hamid, Deputy Chairman of CFOB and others.
On the closing day, an ‘Artist Talk’ was held at the library premises of the British Council where artist and mentor Shahana Mojumder, child-artist Jesmin Akter and Forhad Hossain, Executive Director, LEEDO were present.
“This type of creative event helps the traumatised children to get rid of trauma and it works as mental therapy to refreshen their minds,” stated Forhad Hossain. “The initiative will help to find out latent talent from them and encourage them to be extrovert which is very essential for leadership,” stated Shahana Mojumder.
This event was dedicated to Farid Babu (11) a child who participated in the art camp held on 31 August 2019, but he passed away on 15 September 2019 after suffering from thalassemia and epilepsy.
