Court Correspondent :
A Dhaka court yesterday (Thursday) deferred the hearing on charge framing against 46 leaders and activists of the BNP, including Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir until September 28, in a case filed for alleged crude bomb explosion and arson attack in front of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in the capital.
Magistrate Ataul Haque of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka deferred the hearing following a time petition
filed by defence lawyers Sanaullah Miah and Joynul Abedin Mesbah.
The lawyers sought time as police did not produce the accused including Mirza Fakhrul to the court and also the case awaits a hearing in the High Court Division.
According to the case statement, Tejgaon Police Station Sub-Inspector Ismail Majumder filed a case accusing 46 BNP men in connection with the explosion and arson attack near the PMO during a general strike on April 29 in 2012.
On May 25, 2014, Detective Branch (North) Inspector Nurul Amin of Dhaka Metropolitan Police submitted the charge sheet against 46 people, including Mirza Fakhrul, Standing Committee Member MK Anwar, Mirza Abbas and Joint Secretary-Generals Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and Amanullah Aman.
