Six members of Socialist Party of Bangladesh (SPB) were arrested on Thursday afternoon on Friday noon after police lodged case under Special Power Act (SPA) .
The arrested six persons were Imran Habib Rumman, convener, Dr. Manisha Chakrabarty, member secretary, Nasrin Akhter Tumpa, treasurer of SPB Barisal district unit and Mithun Chakrabarty, treasurer, Zakir Hossain and Nurul Islam of activists SPB workers front.
Police detained these six leaders and activists of SPB in Barisal for allegedly attacking law enforcers on Thursday noon.
The incident occurred when police charged baton to disperse an agitation rally of battery-run rickshaw owners and drivers in front of district judge court on Thursday noon.
Sub Inspector Satya Ranjan Khaskel, second officer of Barisal Kotwali police station, said that Sub Inspector Nazrul Islam as complainant lodged a case against the arrested six as named accused and sixty others as unnamed accused on Thursday night under special power act for attacking law enforcers.
Then after medical checkup and treatment at Barisal General Hospital, the arrested six accused sent to Barisal Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Friday noon.
Anisur Rahman, magistrate of the court, ordered to send the six arrested accused to jail.
Mentionable SPB backed the battery-run rickshaw owners and drivers blocked the road in front of Barisal City Corporation demanding issuance of licenses for the battery-run rickshaws on Thursday noon.
As police tried to vacate the spot, the agitated owners and drivers, coming in front of nearby court area, blocked the road again and attacked law enforces with placard carrying sticks.
Police retaliated with charging baton and dispersed them.
Police also detained the aforesaid six leaders and activists from the spot.
Assistant commissioner of Barisal Kotwali police station Sahanaj Begum claimed that six police personnel were injured by the attackers and treated at police hospital.
On other hand, battery-run rickshaw owners and drivers claimed at least seven of them were injured by police attack and took treatment from different dispensaries.
 
Mentionable SPB backed owners and drivers of battery-run rickshaws were demanding permission and license for operating rickshaws in the city roads as police seized over hundred battery-run rickshaws.
