A Dhaka court on Monday issued arrest warrant against owner of Regent Hospital and Chairman of Regent Group Mohammad Shahed in connection with two cases filed on charge of misappropriation of Tk 3.68 crore.
Judge of the Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka, Md Mainul Islam, passed the order after Md Saifullah Masud, a proprietor of Masud Enterprise located in Karwan Bazar area, filed two separate cases with the court against Shahed.
The court also asked the Officer-in-Charge of Uttara West Police Station to submit the execution order of the arrest warrant issued against Shahed by August 13.
In the first case, Saifullah told the court that Shahed bought Tk one crore worth of rods and cement from his shop between January 18 of 2018 till March 24 the same year.
Shahed then issued four cheques for Saifullah and asked him not to cash those without letting Shahed know first.
But on June 25 this year, when the complainant requested Shahed to clear his dues, Shahed threatened him of dire consequences, said the case statement.
In the second case, the complainant said that his shop supplied construction material worth Tk 2.68 crore to Shahed but he refused to pay the money.
Later, the complainant filed a general dairy with Uttara West Police Station on the same day. Moreover, the complainant filed a complaint to the home ministry on June 3 this year.
His name came into spotlight after Regent Hospital’s Utara and Mirpur branches were sealed off on July 7 on account of issuing of Covid-19 fake test certificates and other irregularities. Huge documents of Covid-19 fake test certificates were recovered from those two branches then.
Later a case was filed with Uttara West Police Station against Regent Gtoup Chairman Md Shahed, its MD Masud Parvez and 15 others. Total eight accused of that case have already been arrested, but the rest of the accused, including Shahed, are still out of reach.
Shahed has been running away for the last seven days, as a fugitive, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) said.
